Europe in figure, Eurostat Yearbook 2008 presents a comprehensive selection of statistical data on Europe. Most data cover the period 1996―2006 and some indicators are provided for other countries, such as candidate countries to the European Union, members of EFTA (European Free Trade Agreement), Japan or the USA. With just over 500 statistical tables, graphs and maps, the yearbook treats the following areas: the economy, education, health, living conditions and welfare, the labour market, industry and services, agriculture, forestry and fisheries, international trade, transport, the environment, energy, science and technology and European regions. This edition's spotlight chapter covers Europe's ageing society and associated demographic challenges.
This publication also includes a CD-ROM with the content of the yearbook, comprising an electronic version in PDF format, tables and graphs in spreadsheet format, and further background information.
Furthermore, it contains PDF versions of the pocketbook key figures on Europe and the end-of-year brochure Statistical Portrait of European Union ― European Year of Intercultural Dialogue.

This third monograph of the IFRI on European Governance and Geopolitics of Energy is devoted to the program's first annual conference on the « External Energy policy of the European Union » The conference took place from January 31st to February 1st at the Palais Egmont, in Brussels, Belgium. Representatives of the European Commission, national governments, academia, and industry examined the European perspectives on the highly topical issue of external energy policy and assessed their relative prospects. The purpose of the conference was to take stock of current policies and to develop perspectives for the decades ahead.
